URL shortening is a method of taking your normally long URL, and making it substantially shorter in order for it to fit easily into your SMS message. This is extremely useful, as long URLs are often difficult to read or copy. URL shortening also allows for full tracking of exactly which number clicked on your shortened URL, giving the sender a wide array of analytics at their disposal.
Please note that only the below methods of sending support the URL shortening function:
- SFTP to SMS
- Email to SMS
Simply click on "Sending" on the left-hand control panel menu, select the "URL Shortener" option and follow these easy steps:
Click on "+ Create Shortener" at the top right of your screen and give your URL shortener a name next to the "Name" field. You can then add the specific URL that needs to be shortened in the "Original URL" field and click on "Create", as seen below:
Once the URL shortener has been created you will see a list of all your shortened URLs, and then be able to view, deactivate, edit or delete any of them from the resulting screen.
- DEACTIVATING A SHORTENED URL: If a shortened URL has been deactivated, you will not be able to use or select it in any outgoing messages.
- EDITING A SHORTENED URL: This option allows you to change the name of an existing shortened URL and the long URL that needs to be replaced.
- DELETING A SHORTENED URL: If shortened URL has been deleted, all click data will be lost and existing messages using this shortener will no longer redirect to your original URL.
Once you have your own domain setup and followed the steps under the Custom URL section, you can choose a custom URL by selecting your preferred domain from the drop-down menu, as seen below:
The drop-down menu for the custom URL will only appear if you have your domain setup, as per the above steps.
