Signup

In the SMSPortal left-hand navigation menu, click on WhatsApp, then select Accounts. If you have not yet connected a WhatsApp Account, you will see the getting started screen with the heading "Get started with WhatsApp".

Click the "Connect / Create your WhatsApp account" button to begin.

Step 1: Phone Registration PIN

A popup will appear titled "Phone Registration PIN".

This step depends on whether your phone number has been previously registered on the WhatsApp Business Platform:

If this is a new number that has never been registered on WhatsApp Business API before, simply click "Continue without PIN". No PIN is needed.
If this number has previously been registered on the WhatsApp Business Platform and you configured a 2FA PIN at that time, you must enter that 6-digit PIN here before proceeding. This is the PIN you set within WhatsApp Manager or your previous provider — not an OTP sent to your phone.

Not sure if you have a PIN? If you've never set one up, click "Continue without PIN". You only need a PIN if you previously enabled two-step verification on this number through the WhatsApp Business API.

Step 2: The Meta Embedded Signup Popup

After the PIN step, a Meta-hosted popup window will open. This is where you connect your Meta Business Portfolio and set up your WhatsApp Business Account. Work through the following screens in order:

Log in to Facebook — Sign in with the personal Facebook account that has admin access to your Business Portfolio. If you're already logged in, Meta will show "Continue as [Your Name]" — confirm this is the correct account. If it's the wrong account, select "Log into another account".
Review Permissions — Meta will display the permissions being granted to SMSPortal. Read through these and click "Get Started" to continue.
Add and Verify your Phone Number — Enter your phone number in international format. Choose whether you want to receive your verification code via SMS or Voice Call. Enter the 6-digit OTP when received. Click Next.
Select or Create your Business Portfolio — Choose your existing Business Portfolio from the dropdown, or create a new one by entering your business name, address, and email. Click Next.
Select or Create a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) — Choose an existing WABA if you have one, or create a new one. When creating, you'll provide the WABA name (your business's legal or formal name), timezone, and currency. Click Next.
Create your WhatsApp Business Profile — Enter your Display Name (what customers see), select your business Category, and optionally add a description and website URL. Click Next.
Completion — Once verified, the popup will close automatically and you'll be returned to SMSPortal.

Important: Do not close the popup window manually while the flow is in progress. If you close it mid-way, a partial WABA or number registration may exist in your Meta account, which can complicate restarting the process. Complete the entire flow in one sitting.

Step 3: Your Number Is Now Connected

After successfully completing the signup, you will be returned to the WhatsApp Numbers page in SMSPortal. Your connected number will now appear as a card showing:

Your Display Name (e.g. "SMSPortal Brands")
Your phone number in international format
Your Business Verification status — initially this may show as unverified. Once Meta completes their automated compliance check, this will update
Your Messaging Limit — this shows the current tier for business-initiated conversations (e.g. 2K / 24hr). New accounts start with a limit of 250 unique messages per 24-hour period, which increases as you complete Business Verification and build a messaging history

You can add additional numbers at any time by clicking your WhatsApp Account and navigating to the Numbers Tab and clicking the green "Add New Number" tile on the same page.

What happens next: Your account is now live and you can begin messaging. However, your display name may not yet be visible to recipients until Meta completes the display name review (triggered automatically after Business Verification). See the Business Verification section of this guide for steps to scale your messaging limits and unlock your full display name.
