WhatsApp Messages

Accessing the Message Log

Go to WhatsApp > Message Log in the left navigation. This page is a searchable log of all WhatsApp messages — both sent and received — across your account.

Searching and Filtering

Use the Search Messages panel at the top to narrow results:

  • Date range — filter by a specific period
  • Message Type — switch between Outbound (messages you sent) and Inbound (messages received from customers)
  • Mobile No. — search for all messages to or from a specific number

Click Search to apply your filters.

Outbound Messages

The outbound table shows one row per message sent, with the following columns:

  • State — the most recent delivery status of the message (see states below)
  • Date — when the message was sent
  • Template / Msg — the template name (shown as a badge if a template was used) or a preview of the message content
  • Recipient — the destination phone number
  • Business Name — the WhatsApp number/profile the message was sent from
  • Submitted Date — when the message was submitted to WhatsApp
  • Delivered Date — when the message was confirmed delivered (blank if not yet delivered)

Expanding a Row

Click the > arrow on any row to expand it. This reveals two panels:

Message Event History — a timestamped timeline of every status the message passed through, for example: Submitted → Accepted → Sent → Delivered → Read. This is useful for diagnosing delays or failures.

Message Details — the technical identifiers for the message:

  • Waba ID — your WhatsApp Business Account ID
  • Waba Number — the sending phone number
  • Business Phone Number ID — the Meta-assigned ID for your number
  • Message ID — the unique WhatsApp message identifier (useful when contacting support)
  • Message Type — whether it was a Template or free-form message
  • Template ID — the Meta ID of the template used, if applicable

Inbound Messages

Switch Message Type to Inbound and click Search to view messages received from customers. The inbound table shows:

  • Message — a preview of the customer's message content
  • Sender — the customer's phone number
  • Business Name — which of your WhatsApp numbers received the message
  • Received Date — when the message arrived
  • Read Date — when the message was marked as read (blank if unread)

Expanding an inbound row shows Message Details with the same technical identifiers as outbound — Waba ID, Waba Number, Business Phone Number ID, Message ID, and Message Type. Inbound messages show as type text (or the appropriate media type if the customer sent a file or image).

Tip: Use the Message ID when raising a support query — it uniquely identifies the message on Meta's platform and speeds up troubleshooting.
